'The purpose of the work, be it story or music or painting, is to further the coming of the kingdom, to make us aware of our status as children of God, and to turn our feet toward home' - Madeleine L'Engle

Performing arts – drama, music, dance – can be found throughout every year at the College, both in and out of class.

Performing Arts

Primary

Our Primary performing arts program provides students with opportunities to ignite their passion and explore creativity. We draw inspiration from the belief that we serve a creative God who has blessed us with gifts to be developed, celebrated, and shared.

We hold a week-long immersive creative arts program every second year. In 2024, this was called DOT Week (Developing Our Talents). This week focused on nurturing budding talents and encouraging students to step out of their comfort zones and discover new passions.

By fostering a supportive environment where students can freely express themselves and collaborate on artistic projects, we aimed to instill confidence, curiosity, and a lifelong appreciation for the beauty of creativity.

The week concludes with our Celebration Showcase, where parents are invited to join in celebrating the students' creativity and learning.

In alternate years, our students in Senior Primary apply their learning in the arts curriculum through productions such as Finding Nemo or Beauty and the Beast, staged every second year. They can participate as performers - acting, dancing, and singing - or work behind the scenes, building and designing props, sets, and media for the production.

Throughout each year, our hope is that our students will have the opportunity to explore and develop a variety of creative skills and interests, collaborate on artistic projects, and grow in their confidence as they share their creativity with others.

Performing Arts

Secondary

For Secondary students, curriculum subjects such as Studio Art, Visual Communication, and Fashion allow a student to explore their creative side within a specific medium, while subjects like Music and Drama focus on the student and their own performance capabilities.

During our annual Creative Arts Week, students take part in a range of artistic disciplines, group challenges, competitions and workshops. A theme is given out early in term two, and when the last week of term arrives, the students work in their House groups to produce and perform their own self-written plays.

They direct their own scripts, make costumes, sets, and props, as well as dance, act, and perform their own music. It’s a unique opportunity for students to work together across all Secondary year levels to celebrate creativity, community and imagination.

The annual Secondary school production aims to bring out the very best in the students. Whether it’s light-hearted musical comedies such as The Little Mermaid and Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, or a classic play such as Mary Poppins, the shows are a highlight of the school calendar and a favourite with families through all years in the College.

Performing in a professional theatre, students take part as actors, singers, dancers, musicians, or in the backstage crew - so there’s always somewhere to get involved. The high quality of our productions has been recognised over several years, receiving multiple nominations and awards in the prestigious Music Theatre Guild and Youth Lyrebird Awards, including Best Actor and Actress, Best Supporting Actress, Best Choreography, and Judges Award.
