Sport isn’t just about excellence and results. It’s also about the opportunity to take part, no matter who you are.

sport-6.jpg#asset:1256Sport is an integral part of the programs at Donvale Christian College, with a wide variety of sports and events offered to engage and challenge. From traditional sports such as football and basketball, to more contemporary sports such as ultimate frisbee and touch rugby, students are bound to find something they enjoy playing.

It all starts in Primary school. From Prep through to Year Six every student participates in Physical Education class each week.

Years Three and Four add a modified weekly sports program which builds skills before Years Five and Six open the door to interschool sport. This happens within the Maroondah Region of the School Sport Victoria (SSV) association.

Outside of the interschool competition, the weekly sport sessions offer students from Years Three to Six the opportunity to experience a multitude of different sports and activities such as gymnastics and suitably modified games.

Beyond the interschool sport programs, Primary students may enter elite sport pathways through SSV affiliation. These are available in swimming, athletics and cross-country and offer competition from district level through to national level.

The Secondary school is a member of the Eastern Independent Schools Melbourne (EISM) sporting association, which facilitates weekly interschool sport competitions throughout the school year.

The College also competes in interschool carnivals against EISM schools in swimming, athletics and cross-country, winning both swimming and multiple cross-country events in the top divisions in recent years. Many students have gone on to represent the school in state and national competitions. Donvale’s success in the cross-country events may of course not be unrelated to the fact that our campus, where students train, is extremely hilly …

Back on campus, the Secondary House competitions are always a highlight of the year with the four College houses challenging for swimming, athletics, and cross-country trophies. Learning to compete with integrity, respect and humility at this level is a great preparation for interschool and even interstate competition. We are proud of the culture that has been established within all these sporting arenas, with the students valuing participation, determination and the willingness to give things a go above the final score.
