A change of gears as students embark upon the last three years of school and explore possible pathways to the future.
The senior years are an opportunity for students to cultivate their gifts, develop skills and to continue to identify and nurture their passions. We recognise that we have great students at the school, and we look forward to journeying with students as they navigate the final half of their Secondary education.
In Year 10, students are encouraged to explore a breadth of studies. While all students study English, Mathematics, Christian Studies and Sport, there are many other electives which students can choose from. We offer four different Science electives, a whole range of Humanities subjects, Arts, Performing Arts and Integrated studies.
Two recent additions to our elective subjects, which have proven popular, are: ‘Innovate’ – where students identify and solve a problem using practical models, and ‘Social Beans’ – where students learn how to run a business and develop barista skills through a school partnership with a local social enterprise café. Year 10 is also marked by a 4-day river journey on the Murray. Students paddle a section of the river, camp on the banks and explore God’s amazing creation.
VCE is a time for focussing in on the areas of interest for each student and developing a pathway into life beyond school. We offer a broad range of VCAA approved subjects across all domains. Students will all undergo a subject selection interview to look at the subject choices that best suit their specific interests and pathways going forward. There are also opportunities to change subjects after an initial discovery during our next year Stepping Up program run at the end of each year.
We are proud of the excellent specialist teachers we have who seek to engage Senior students in rich learning activities. Teachers use many strategies such as the agency-based strategies of inquiry learning, design thinking approaches and authentic real world learning tasks. They will also assist students to set learning goals, evaluate learning approaches and reflect on their own learning.
Student wellbeing is a priority across Senior Secondary. Students are arranged into a House based vertical care structure. Morning homegroups and other community building activities are arranged in multi-year level groups. This is a great opportunity for students to get to know other Senior Secondary students, not necessarily in their own year level. We have been impressed by the way students encourage one another and look beyond themselves.
We trust that students will find their journey through their senior years to be rich and rewarding as we partner together to seek and discover the plans that God has for each of them.
