A brief description of Sport activities in Primary
On each Friday afternoon, we conduct Year 5/6 sport for all students in Level Four. The sports focused upon during terms 1 & 2 are: AFL, Soccer, Netball, Softball, Bat Tennis & Volleystars. During Term Two, these sports are played against other schools in the Ringwood Nth District. During second semester, many of these sports are still offered but we also introduce new sports known as ‘racquet sports’ which include table tennis, lacrosse & badminton.
On each Tuesday afternoon, we offer Year 3/4 sport for all students in Level Three. The classroom teacher normally takes their class for a sport, but on occasions we divide the boys up from the girls or separate Year 3 from Year 4 students just for a change. There is a focus on modified sports such as kickball and throwball as we aim for the children to develop skills and team work. This also proves a strong link to the sports offered in Level Four.
Any extra-curricular clubs/events
Ping Pong Club (Table Tennis) is offered to children in Level Three & Four in terms 2 - 4. Due to the popularity of the sport, we alternate the levels from week to week. Ping Pong Club is run on Monday at lunchtime in the gym loft from 12.40pm - 1.15pm.
Middle distance training is conducted before school on both Tuesday and Thursday mornings. The times for the sessions are 7.15am – 8.00am. The main focus of the sessions is to increase children’s fitness through training on both flat surfaces and hills. The sessions are open to all children in Years 3 - 6.
Primary House Athletics Day
The Primary House Athletics Carnival is normally scheduled for mid-late March in Term 1. All children are placed in a house colour and they compete for that house on that day; Cook (Yellow), Flinders (Blue), Hume (Green) & Sturt (Red). The Primary House Athletics is usually held at Rieschiecks Reserve in Doncaster. Children who are aged 10 and above that win an individual event have the opportunity to compete at the District/Regional Athletics in Terms 3 & 4.
Primary House Cross Country Day
The Primary House Cross Country is organised on campus in mid to late May (Term 2). All children represent their house colour and have the opportunity to compete at the District & Zone Cross Country’s later in Term 2. The children in Level One run 2 laps of the top oval. Children in Level two run 1km, Level Three run 2km while children in Level Four run 3km.
Primary Inter-Christian School’s Athletics Carnival
The Primary Inter-Christian School’s Athletics Carnival is normally held in mid-November. Donvale Christian College compete against eight other Christian Schools on the day and the venue is the Knox Track in Knoxfield. It is a wonderful day with lots of track & field events as well as great fellowship between all schools. This event is for selected students in Years 3 - 6.
