Welcome to Level Two - Year 1 & 2
Welcome to the Year 1/2 section on the College website. This year we have six Year 1/2 classes at DCC. The classes in Year 1/2 this year are:
Year 1/2BD - Brendan Deith
Year 1/2CF - Catherine Fernihough
Year 1/2JH - Jeanene Heffernan
Year 1/2KB - Kimberly Butler
Year 1/2LM - Laura McCasker
Year 1/2MR - Mariah Reed
We have the joy of teaching beginner readers, writers, problems solvers and faith warriors. Watching the 140 Year 1/2 students grow in confidence as their skills develop is truly a privilege we as teachers never take for granted.
In our level, students are learning to develop friendships and think of others. Watching out for fellow classmates is a theme that continues out into the playground. We are committed to imparting a heart to serve others and each week one student from each class takes on the role of ‘Student of the Week’. This allows students to become the teacher’s helper and carry out various tasks that require responsibility. We interview that student to get to know them at a deeper level and we pray for them to make wise decisions. In all that we set out to accomplish in Year 1/2, we are always guiding students to grow and develop into the people God is calling them to be and become.
Level 2 embraces the College emphasis on parent/teacher partnerships. Each teacher offers parents the opportunity to assist within the classroom on a pre-determined day provided they have attended the parent helper course and satisfied all of the child protection criteria.
It is our desire to know our students so that we can teach them effectively. Our curriculum is designed to give students a rich and broad range of opportunities to find out about the world around them and further understand God’s creation. Our emphasis surrounds equipping students with foundational skills and nurturing their natural curiosity and desire to learn. In all things, teachers endeavour to develop their students’ strengths and encourage them to achieve their best.
Please email if you have any questions or thoughts about our level.
