At DCC we are committed to helping our students in their understanding of God’s world by encouraging natural inquisitiveness and a desire to learn, while trying to address such questions as How? and Why?
As a learning community, we also recognise the need to develop positive relationships with one another based on mutual respect and love, as demonstrated to us by God through His Son, Jesus Christ.
The primary learning years provide the foundation for more advanced learning. It is therefore with this focus in mind that the staff team commit themselves to delivering a quality Christian education to every child at Donvale Christian College.
In 2017, we have approximately 555 students in the primary years of learning at DCC. Our primary school is structured in multi-aged classes. We have 24 primary classes; four Prep, six Year 1/2, seven Year 3/4, and seven Year 5/6.
In our primary classes at DCC, we provide learning opportunities with explicit teaching structured in small groups, focusing on each students' different abilities. In each of our classes, the teacher allows for learning to take place in three or more ability groups.
If a student has difficulty in reading and writing but has a great ability in Mathematics, putting them above the standard, this child would be in the small group appropriate to their learning level in the differing subjects. We believe this extends children from their known knowledge toward an increased understanding for further learning.
In our classes the child's learning comes first and the lessons are shaped according to different abilities.
