Working Bee 2009 Information

Each DCC family is required to complete 8 hours of working bee for the year. Families are asked to attend according to the year level of their youngest child. The working bees are scheduled each month and are a great opportunity to meet other families. Our Grounds & Maintenance staff do a wonderful job in providing a safe and pleasant working environment for our students. This is your opportunity to get alongside them and give some practical assistance. You will be advised via the school newsletter
“Networks”each week of the upcoming working bee, we will not be sending out reminder notices.

A levy of $150.00 has already been charged to each family’s fee account. On completion of your working bee commitment you will receive a $150.00 credit to your fee account.

Frequently Asked Questions regarding the Working Bee

Must one person from the family complete the 8 hours?
No, each FAMILY is required to complete 8 hours. This means that if 2 people from the family come, you need only stay for a morning (of course if you are able to provide 4 capable workers you may only need to spend a couple of hours!).
The hours are 8.30am to 12.30pm & 1.00 pm to 5.00pm
Students are welcome to assist their families, but they must be willing and capable to complete the tasks set for them. (Younger students may attend with their families providing they are supervised, however their presence does not contribute to the 8 hours).

May we bring our children?
See answer to above

I have a special skill – should I let you know?
Please notify the office if you are a qualified tradesman or have expertise in any field which you think may be of help. This information helps the supervisors plan appropriate tasks for the day.

Do I need to bring anything?
Special tools or equipment needed for a particular working bee will be notified through “Networks”. A pair of gardening gloves and rubber gloves will be useful on the day.

Do I get lunch if I stay all day?
Yes, a BBQ lunch is provided for families who are staying for a whole day.

How will you know I have attended the working bee?
This is very IMPORTANT. The supervisors for the day will have an “ATTENDANCE RECORD BOOK” which you MUST SIGN for each person and each session attended. If this is not done your fee account will not be credited with $150.00.

Can I just “turn up” on the day?
Yes.

What happens if I am unable to attend any working bee for the year?
As notified in the fee schedule sent out at the commencement of the year, you have already been levied a $150.00 fee for non-attendance.
