Bushfire Warnings - the new system

As you are aware, since Black Saturday there has been a total review of the emergency warning system. The new and highest level is CODE RED (CATASTROPHIC) .

In addition to this, there have been a number of districts that have been identified as ‘Bushfire - High Risk'

Donvale Christian College is a school that has been identified as being in a Bushfire ‘High Risk' area.

What does this mean for our community?
Inclusion on this register is a trigger for us to close on days declared by fire authorities as being Code Red (Catastrophic). The procedure for closing is that the College, the bus routes, school off-site activities, and Kid's Zone will close on a day declared a Code Red Fire (Catastrophic) Danger Rating Day. There is a commitment from the authorities that a Code Red (Catastrophic) will be called three days prior to the specific day identified.

If the Bureau of Meteorology or the CFA downgrades the risk forecast in the lead-up to a planned closure, the closure may be cancelled and the College will remain open.

The final decision to close the College will be confirmed no later than midday the day before the planned closure.

Once the decision to close has been confirmed , there will be no change – regardless of improvements to the weather conditions the following afternoon or overnight – this will help limit confusion and provide time for parents to make alternative care arrangements for their children. We will use our website to help parents know what is happening.

Detailed information can be found on the CFA's website: http://www.cfa.vic.gov.au

DCC Annual Evening Thanksgiving Service

Wednesday 2nd December 2009
COMMENCING AT 7:15PM

Please plan to arrive by 7:00pm to allow time for seating.

Robert Blackwood Hall
Monash University, Clayton Campus
Wellington Road, Clayton (Melways 70 G10)

This year the management at Robert Blackwood Hall is allowing us to run a “non-ticketed” event. Therefore there will be unreserved seating available on a first come, first served basis.

Of course, some students will be involved in presentations, graduations, etc and there will be reserved seating for them.

Therefore if you have a child (or children) in the compulsory year levels – Prep, Yr 6 and Yr 12 – you will already have received a letter asking you to indicate how many seats you would like reserved for your family and friends. (If this is not the case, please contact the office).

For everyone else, arrive there in plenty of time and you will be ushered to the best available seats (please be aware seats are limited). We look forward to having a great Thanksgiving Service with you on Wednesday 2nd December.

An awesome experience in Vanuatu!

Seven students and two teachers have just returned to Melbourne after spending 10 days at DCC's partner school in Port Vila.

The cultural exchange and mission experience has been planned for months and the students have been engaged in some practical teacher training activities to equip them to assist in the primary school.

From their first classes, our DCC students were in their element; telling stories, teaching songs, playing games and sharing information about Australia. This was reciprocated and our students learned so much about life for their Christian brothers and sisters in Vanuatu.
